Thanks to all who have helped with this one. I took the main modem out and
reconfigured the jumpers. muLinux then behaved itself perfectly, as I knew
it should have done, but unfortunately Windows now recognises it but won't
talk to it, so I'm back to square one and since Windows it more important to
me than Linux at the moment...
BTW, I disabled com2 but it made no difference.
