DRAM? Why? No need to involve any (relatively) complex memory controller,
you can have the best of two worlds using the sweet baby - DS1270 - from
Dallas Semiconductor. This one is great! 16M x8 SRAM (that's 2 mBytes you
know..), access times of 70 ns (quite favourable comparisson to FLASH) NO
LIMITED write access! Just write this baby anyting you want, she'll
remember it. Trivial write procedure (after all, it's just ordinary SRAM!)
and the battery backed version will retain it's data up to 5 years w/o VCC.
Sure beats Flash in most applications requiring somewhat frequent
updates/writes. I actually use it as flash substitute in all my designs.
Works great as "BIOS"/boot-code storage, say lower 64kb or something, as
well as program memory, normal data RAM, power-off log-area, framebuffer
for yer Kool Display hardware or whatever. Does it get any better? I'm in
love... :-)

Oh yeah, it's standard thoughhole 36 pin DIL. Maybe some SMD version around
aswell, don't know.

Just thought I'd mention this, I am not in any way associated with Dallas
semi. (what'd give you that idea?? :-)

Oh and btw... www.maxim-ic.com Need I say more? Free samples of this
beauty... You'll never know how you did get by w/o her!
