Creating
Global Spares
To add a Global spare
Global Spare
Global spare is
a standby drive that can be used to rebuild any logical drive. There are two
options with creating Global spares:
1. An unused physical drive can be manually assigned as a Global
spare.
Step 1: From the configuration tree, select the Maintenance category, Physical Drives, and select an unconfigured drive in the Front View window.
Step 2: Follow the onscreen message to proceed. Single-click the Global Spare check circle and click the Next button below.
Step 3: Another message window should display. Select a logical drive from the Front View window. When a logical drive is selected, it is highlighted by a bright blue line around its members and its unique ID is displayed. Click Next to proceed.
Step 4: Double check the message at the confirm box and click the Finish button to complete the process.
2. An unused drive can be automatically used as a Global spare.
Step 1: From the configuration tree, select the Configuration category, Configuration Parameters, and select the Other tab button by single mouse click.
Step 2: Enable the Auto-Assign Global Spare option. Any drive not yet configured will be automatically applied if any logical drive has a failed member.
