Continuing the thread about: graphical programming in Linux.
I download, compiled and tested every free package for make GUI using
Linux, in various flavor, i.e.: over the X-Server and over the framebuffer
device.
My last is the new GTK+, version 2.0.2, with comes with the framebuffer
support.
Well; with the embedded world in mind, I'm now checking the sizes that
I can obtain.
Mmmm ... the new GTK system requires an hard-disk populated with
a lot of additional libraries:
GTK, GDK, GLIB ... (until here, I can still support) ...
ATK, Pango , PKG_CONFIG ( and here start my confusion).
In conclusion, if you wish to open a window with the string "hello" in it
and wish to use GTK+, you need mega and mega of software!
The framebuffer lib is :
# ls -l libgtk-linux-fb-2.0.so.0.0.2
-rwxr-xr-x 5454295 Apr 29 00:52 libgtk-linux-fb-2.0.so.0.0.2*
i.e. 5M!
Think that: the FLTK (the Fast Light ToolKit) system gain the same task
with an hello statically linked, in only 97 Kytes (but requires X-Window).
