Well, *you* know that, being a developer. But how should I have
known... ? :-| That's why I sent my report.

That sounds reasonable. Maybe you can just make it so that the
mkswap is only executed during manual configuration, where there
already is a good warning message.
During automatic setup, it should just do a swapon, that will
gracefully fail with an error msg if the given partition is not swap.
