As Michele Andreoli states in the "Install from Linux" directions ( see
http://sunsite.dk/mulinux/mu/INSTALL.Linux
<http://sunsite.dk/mulinux/mu/INSTALL.Linux> ), it is a far easier &
cleaner process to create these floppies from an existing Linux machine.

If such a machine is not accessible to you, try to:
(1) get to a Win98 (or Win95) machine,
(2) download the DOSTOOLS, muLinux Root/Boot/Usr files, & add-on files
(3) use the UNPACK.BAT (to open the mul*.TGZ file) & MAKEFI.BAT (to
create the setup floppy) to create the setup boot floppy.
(4) Use the setup boot floppy to make the muLinux boot and add-on
floppies

Both of the above methods have worked for me. The Install-from-Linux method
works best of all.

Subject: Making the 172Mb disks.......I just can't get it to
work..beginner!

I've downloaded the mulinux images and dos stuff, and have managed
to
get the initial install disk made under NT4, but from then on it
goes
        all pear shaped

I've tried on 3 different machines, but with no success. I keep
getting
an error when I try to create the disk set. There seems to be some
problems with the dis sectors!. I therefore bought a new drive and a
new
set of MAXELL disks, but even that didn't help.

I've tried using fdformat.exe under NT.
I've tried using SuperFormat from feiz just to see it it was at all
possible to format my disks to 1.72Mb (it wouldn't work either)

What can I be doing wrong?
Do I need to use a special type of disks (except high quality)?
Do I need a special floppy drive?
Do I need to enable something in the BIOS?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

        regards,
        Anders Smith
