I forgot to say that I am using muLinux version 11r11.

When I enter the full-screen setup utility & choose the 'sound' option, the
sound utility asks if I want to listen through the system
'speaker' or through 'sb' (SoundBlaster card). I choose 'sb' any I choose
'y' (YES, Probe for sound card). The Probe tries a number of IRQ / IO
combinations, but it always responds with:
        "poke: error opening file"
        ": FAIL"

Finally, I get the message:
        "Fail: please, provide values."

I am then prompted to manually enter IO, IRQ, DMA, & DMA16 (0 - no DMA16
required for this sound card). When I provide the values I0=220, IRQ=5,
DMA=1, DMA16=0, I get the message:
"Failed loading module misc/sound, raison: not found"

I have manually tried the other valid IO (220, 240, 260, 280), IRQ (2, 5, 7,
10), & DMA (0, 1, 3) values.

None of these seems to work. What other settings should I try ?

Again, your help is much appreciated.

Subject: mu SETUP: problem w/ SoundBlaster setup

                Hi -

I am trying to set up my Pentium 133 (32 MB RAM) so that I
can use the svncviewer (or the xvnc viewer) to remotely access a Win NT
wkstn. PC.

I have successfully created the muLinux boot floppy along
with the add-on floppies (SRV, WKS, X11, VNC) which I wanted.

When the boot floppy comes to the part of the setup where I
can configure my sound card (SoundBlaster 16 PnP - ISA card), the 'poke'
utility tries the IO=220/IRQ=5 combination but is unable to find the sound
card.

As this is an ISA PnP sound card, there are no jumpers to
use for manually setting the IO & IRQ values. In addition, the IO=220/IRQ=5
settings work just fine when I'm running Windows 98 on this PC.

Also, I've tried to set up the 'isapnp' options using an
'isapnp.conf ' file (which contains the ranges of IO & IRQ values which are
valid for this sound card).

Still, I am unable to hear audio using through sound card
while I am using muLinux.

                Your help is greatly appreciated.
