Javascript in IExplorer

Hello,
a question for You.
Netscape Navitor support special URL's syntax like

                javascript: f()

where f() is some javascript function. This syntax allow to execute
directly javascript code using a simple url call.

Explorer, apparently, doesn't. Why? The syntax is different or the
feature is simply missing in IE?
