Not the problem. The file /etc/ls.conf is configured for colors:

-s --color=tty

Is it the same in your system? If it is the same, try this:
/root> ls
...listing of directory with colors...
/root> bash
/root> ls
...listing of directory WITHOUT colors!...
/root> cd /usr/lib
/root> exit
/root> cd /usr/lib
/usr/lib>

Do you see the problem now?
