set up cdrom

Hi,

I am trying to set up my cdrom on an old 486 8MB (Sony).
I believe I need a module cdu31a.o (.h?) to use it,
but it doesn't appear that I have it.
Anyone have it, or know where I can get it?
The CDROM-HOWTO says to make a device with
mknod /dev/cdu31a b 15 0
but i also can't find mknod.
