Did you try ls –l to look for the little 'x' that normally
indicated files that can be executed by the owner/group/others
respectively ?

To make a file executable you might want to use the chmod command
(see 'man chmod').

Oh, there *will* be a FAQ soon, but do not ask me /how/ soon this will
come true! It mainly depends from such unimportant questions as 'when
will i have the time to do it'... ;-)
